WORKSHOP: Crayon Encaustics w/ Ron McGarry @ Harlin Museum - Hathcock Gallery, Lower Level

This will be a basic class on crayon encaustic painting. The student will accomplish several smaller subjects for practice to learn the technique and feel of crayon encaustic painting before accomplishing a larger simple project. This class will get you started into rediscovering the old art medium of crayon and taking it into the 21st century of painting bright amazing works of art that are being shown in galleries and museum all over the world.

Crayon Encaustic painting is the process of heating your wax crayons to create the artwork. The crayons are melted and transferred to paper. Ron’s encaustic work is a celebration of the alchemy of transforming common crayon wax into unique artistic works.

Crayon encaustics can be fun and challenging; an original art form with a unique effect that makes your piece of work enjoyable with a full range of artistic styles; it can be anything from an abstract vision to a realistic image.

Cost: $20; fee may be paid upon arrival. Check or cash only.

Supplies:
Basic Box of Crayola Crayons
Hot Glue Gun
Pencil
Eraser
Bring images of fruit, fish, flowers, landscapes or sky-scapes or any full-color images to work from.

The rest of the materials for the class will be provided.

Bring a snack if so desired; water will be provided.

Please register to attend ASAP for set-up and planning; the classroom can only hold 12 people for this workshop.

ENTRY DATE: Annual Spring Art Show Competition @ Harlin Museum of West Plains

Entries for the Harlin Museum’s Annual Spring Art Show Competition will be taken Friday & Saturday, March 29th & 30th at the museum. Entry to the competition is open to artists 16 & older, which is a change from the limit of 18 & older that the competition has had in previous years.

Artists can only enter 4 paintings.  Entry fees will be1 painting – $20.00, 2 paintings – $30.00, 3 paintings – $35.00, 4 paintings – $40.00.  Cash or check only; checks may be made payable to the Harlin Museum. Prizes will include: Best of Show – $200.00 & ribbon, 1st place (3) – $75.00 & ribbons, 2nd place (3) – $50.00 & ribbons, 3rd place (3) – $25.00 & ribbon.  Other awards include Memorial Awards, Purchase Awards, & Artistic Encouragement Awards given by local sponsors and community businesses. This is the museum’s second-highest prize award payout of the year.  The People’s Choice Award, the winner of the people’s popular vote, will be awarded at the reception. .All competition entries will be evaluated for artistic quality, integrity, and presentation.
