WORKSHOP: Plein Air Nature Journaling & Nature Walk (RESCHEDULED FOR TBD AUTUMN 2019) @ Harlin Museum/Galloway Park

Join us for a Plein Air Nature Journaling Workshop & Nature Walk!

Nature journaling (sketchbook journaling) is recording the natural world in its own environment; sketching in detail and recording information about plants, animals, mountains and landscapes, to use as a reference or cannot be captured in detail by a camera. This workshop’s emphasis will be on learning how to look closely at nature while observing with a keen eye and recording what you see in detail.  

VENUE:  Harlin Museum, Lower Level Classroom Space / Galloway Park

LUNCH/REFRESHMENTS: Drinking water will be provided in the classroom; you may choose to bring your own lunch or snacks for either portion of the workshop.

INSTRUCTOR:  Wendy Ziegler

WORKSHOP HOURS: Please note that this is a two-day workshop and that the times are different for both days.

Saturday, April 27:  10:00am-2:00pm

Sunday, April 28: 1:00pm-3:00pm

SUBJECT:  Nature Journaling – learning how to draw nature in detail

COST: Pre-Registration before Saturday, April 20th: $40.00  /  After April 20th: $50.00

Cash or Check only; make workshop fee payable to Harlin Museum, PO Box 444, West Plains, MO 65775 or drop off during regular museum hours of operation

SUPPLIES: Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes for outside workshop. Student grade materials will be provided to use during the workshop, however, you are encouraged to bring your own supplies.

Required Supplies :

Pencils – 2B or higher softness of B grade

Sharpies, various colored markers or colored ink pens

Sketchbook

Watercolors & brushes

Misc light colored paper of various qualities

Clean sponges to cut

Water jar with lid

Paper towels

Small Paint Palette

Learn the art of watercolor! 

This workshop’s emphasis will be on the basics of painting with watercolors, including special techniques, watercolor washes, and painting with detail. This class is a must for the beginner. You will learn a lot of tricks that will keep you from becoming frustrated with a challenging medium that sometimes has a will of its own. This will be a fun workshop! The first day will lay the foundation of skills that students will need for the second day of instruction.

VENUE:  Harlin Museum; Lower Level, Classroom Space.

LUNCH/REFRESHMENTS: Drinking water will be provided. Students may bring lunch, snacks, or other beverages as they please.

Introduction to watercolor paint, paper, and brushes

Preparation of tools & other supplies to have on hand

Layout and planning of your watercolor artwork

Masking (Protecting your white)

Basics of painting with watercolors

Watercolor washes and backgrounds

How to control the water in watercolor painting

Painting details with watercolors

Negative painting

 COST:
