HARLIN MUJSEUM’S ANNUAL SPRING ART SHOW COMPETITION

EXHIBIT OPEN: April 4th – 21st, 2019

(OPEN TO ALL ARTISTS AGE 16 & OLDER)

Entry Dates:

Friday, March 29th & Saturday, March 30th, 12 pm to 4 pm, in the Hathcock Gallery of the Harlin Museum.

Entry Fee:

1 painting – $20.00, 2 paintings – $30.00, 3 paintings – $35.00, 4 paintings – $40.  Cash or check only; payable to the Harlin Museum. Artists can only enter 4 paintings.

There will not be entry categories:  All two-dimensional art will be accepted, to include:

  • oil
  • pastels
  • mixed medium/collage
  • original wood-burning art
  • wood carving (wall hanging)
  • scratch art
  • graphics medium
    • pencil
    • graphite
    • charcoal
    • ink
    • linocut prints
    • colored pencil
  • water mediums
    • acrylic
    • gouache
    • regular watercolor
    • watercolor pencils

 Prizes:

  • Best of Show – $200.00 & ribbon
  • 1st place (3) – $75.00 & ribbons
  • 2nd place (3) – $50.00 & ribbons
  • 3rd place (3) – $25.00 & ribbons

Other awards include Memorial Awards, Purchase Awards, & Artistic Encouragement Awards given by local sponsors and community businesses; the People’s Choice Award, the winner of the popular vote, will be awarded at the reception. All competition entries will be evaluated for artistic quality, integrity, and presentation.

Guidelines:

All paintings must be original works of the artist entering. No Copies.  All work must be done in the last 4 years and not previously shown in Harlin Museum’s Competition Art Show Exhibits.  All artwork on paper must be either framed under glass or Plexiglas. All other mediums must be framed or on a 1.25-inch gallery wrapped canvas with wire and eye-screws for hanging.  No Saw-tooth Hangers and no plastic snap together frames will be accepted.  All acrylic and oils must be dry. Subject matter must be acceptable to present to school children.

Size Limit:  No larger than 36 X 48 inches will be accepted.

Artists Reception & Awards Ceremony:  A meet & greet event for the artists will be held before the Awards Reception on Sunday, April 21st, from 12 noon – 4 pm. Awards will be handed out @3pm and official event photo will be taken of winners. The paintings will be released after the presentation of awards.  Paintings not taken the day of the reception may be picked up at the museum the following week during business hours (Thursday & Friday, 12 pm – 6 pm and Saturday & Sunday, from 12 pm to 4 pm).

Sponsors:  The Harlin Museum’s Annual Spring Art Show is sponsored by the members of the James P. Harlin Foundation Museum Board.  Proceeds after expenses will go towards the Harlin Museum’s s maintenance and the preservation of the museum’s Permanent Collection.
