January 13 – February 5: Annual Fiber & Textile Arts Competition Show (Entry Dates: January 6 & 7)   

This is an annual non-juried competition show open to all forms of textile artists. The competition accepts entries of all kinds of textile and fiber art, including, but not limited to quilting, knitting, crochet, lacework, embroidery, cross-stitch, beadwork, wool needle felting, appliqué, handmade apparel, rug-making, macrame, etc. Entries are judged with numeric scores; scores are 25% artistic design, 25% general appearance, and 50% construction. Awards are given for Best of Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place entries in each category of both adult & youth divisions. People’s Choice.is awarded by popular vote.

 

February 10 – March 5: Annual High School Art Show Competition / Young Artist Showcase (Entry Dates: February 3 & 4)

This is a non-juried competition show open to any student in high school — including home-schooled high school students; all younger artists are eligible to enter their art for display in the Young Artist Showcase. Awards are given for Best of Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place entries in each category; People’s Choice.is awarded by popular vote.

 

March 10 – April 2: Feature Artist Show: “MIND GAMES” by Craig Grassle

This show will feature pieces by the talented Craig Grassle, an architect, and artist that grew up in Missouri. This exhibit will display some of the artist’s earlier work, demonstrating the evolution of his craft. These pieces utilize bright, vibrant, contrasting colors with free-flowing strokes illustrating movement and expression. He intentionally places thought in the mind of his observer–by use of negative space–to create positive images that reveal the concepts beyond the subject matter.

April 7 – April 30: Annual Spring Art Show Competition (Entry Dates: March 31 & April 1)

This non-juried fine art competition show is open to all artists in both youth & adult divisions and includes all 2D & 3D forms of fine art*; held in Spring every year. Awards are given for Best of Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place entries in each category of both divisions. People’s Choice.is awarded by popular vote. May 5 – May 28: Annual Photography Show Competition (Entry Dates: April 28 & 29)

This non-juried annual competition show is open to all photographers. Possible categories* include color photography, monotone photography, altered photography, photo collage, macro photography, etc. Awards are given for Best of Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place entries in each category of both adult & youth divisions. People’s Choice.is awarded by popular vote.

June 2 – September 3: Ozark Heritage Exhibit (featuring the L.L. Broadfoot Collection) 

This exhibit is the one time of the year that the museum displays its Pioneers Of The Ozarks collection by  L.L. Broadfoot in its entirety* ; a series of eighty-eight charcoal drawings and oil paintings depicting actual people, places, and events of the Ozarks that the artist captured in the late 1930’s – late 1940’s.

*due to a minimum of current gallery space

 

September 8 – October 1: Our Ozarks In Art Multimedia Show (Entry Dates: September 1 & 2) (Theme: Ozarks Landmarks) 

This is a non-juried competition show open to all artists and includes all 2D & 3D forms of fine art (including painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.) and photography (color, monotone, macro, altered, collage, etc.).  Awards are given for Best of Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place entries in each category of both adult & youth divisions. People’s Choice.is awarded by popular vote.

 

October 6 – October 15: Story of the Wildwoods: The Unpublished Works of L.L. Broadfoot

This show will feature a selection of Broadfoot’s art from his unpublished “Stoney of the Wildwoods” series, as well as his Truman University portrait series and other varying selections from the museum’s permanent collection.

 

October 20 – November 19: Harlin Museum’s 48th Annual Fall Art Show Competition

(Submission Deadline: Monday, October 9th, 11:45 pm)

This juried fine art competition show is open to all artists in both youth & adult divisions and includes all 2D & 3D forms of fine art*; held in Autumn every year. Awards are given for Best of Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place entries in each category of both adult & youth divisions. People’s Choice.is awarded by popular vote.

December 1 – December 31: West Plains Model Railroad Club Holiday Train Display

Enjoy this festive model train display, featuring multiple model railroad layouts traveling through highly detailed miniature sets of mountain, city, and pastoral scenes. The perfect winter holiday activity for the whole family!  Learn all about the model railroad hobby from members of the West Plains Model Railroad Club. Class field trips and large group tours are encouraged and are a great way to enjoy the spirit of the season.
