Annual Fiber & Textile Arts Competition Show, January 19 – February 18                  

This is an annual non-juried competition show open to all fiber and textile arts artists. This competition accepts entries of all kinds of textile and fiber art, including, but not limited to: quilting, knitting, crochet, lacework, embroidery, cross-stitch, beadwork, wool needle felting, appliqué, handmade apparel, rug-making, macrame, etc.

Entries are judged with numeric scores; scores are worth 25% for artistic design, 25% for general appearance, and 50% for construction of entry. Awards are given in both Youth and Adult Divisions; People’s Choice.is awarded by popular vote. The Carrie A. Warren-Gentry Memorial Award for Youth Talent in Textile Arts is awarded to the top winner of the Youth Division. 

2024 Entry Dates will be held Friday, January 12th, and Saturday, January 13th (12 pm – 4 pm each day) at Harlin Museum.

Annual High School Art Show / Young Artist Showcase, February 23 – March 25

This is a non-juried art competition show open to all high-school students–including home-schooled high school students–and also offers an opportunity for younger artists to display artwork in the (free) non-competitive Young Artist Showcase; check the Event Calendar for entry and show dates. The focus of this show is to encourage young artists to share their artwork, continue the process of learning and improving artistic techniques, and experience participation in a competitive gallery show while expanding their minds through the creation of art. 

Entries are judged with numeric scores; scores are worth 25% for design & composition, 25% for technique/skill of construction, 25% for presentation, and 25% for creativity & originality. Awards are given for Best of Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place entries in each category; People’s Choice is awarded by popular vote.

2024 Entry Dates will be held Friday, February 16th, and Saturday, February 17th (12 pm – 4 pm each day) at Harlin Museum.

ECLIPSE Invitational Art Show: A Perspective On Light And Dark, March 29 – April 28 

This invitational art show will feature pieces by select artists to mark the occasion of the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, and our community’s location in the path of totality.

Annual Photography Show Competition, May 3 – May 26

This is a non-juried competition show open to all skill levels of photographers and all types of photography; check the Event Calendar for dates. Possible categories* include color photography, monotone photography, altered photography, photo collage, macro photography, etc. 

Entries are judged with numeric scores; scores are worth 25% for design & composition, 25% for technique/skill of construction, 25% for presentation, and 25% for creativity & originality. Awards are given for both Youth and Adult Divisions; People’s Choice.is awarded by popular vote.

Ozark Heritage Exhibit (featuring the L.L. Broadfoot Collection),  May 31 – September 29

The annual exhibit of Ozarks artist L.L. Broadfoot’s  “Pioneers Of The Ozarks  art collection, which is a series of charcoal drawings and oil paintings depicting the people, places, and culture of the Ozarks captured by the artist in the late 1930s – early 1940s and published in Broadfoot’s 1944 book of the same namecheck the Event Calendar for dates. 

 

 

Harlin Museum’s 48th Annual Fall Art Show Competition, October 4 – October 27

This is a juried fine art competition show held in Autumn every year; check the Event Calendar for dates. The competition is open to all artists and includes all 2D & 3D forms of fine art*.

Entries are judged with numeric scores; scores are worth 25% for design & composition, 25% for technique/skill of construction, 25% for presentation, and 25% for creativity & originality. Awards are given for both Youth and Adult Divisions; People’s Choice.is awarded by popular vote.

*categories include paintings (oils, watercolor, gouache, acrylics, ink and wash, tempera, or encaustic paints), drawings (charcoal, chalk, crayon, pastel, pencil, or pen and ink), digital art (still and/or animated art created using digital technology), printmaking (woodcuts, stencils, block print, scratch art, engraving, etching, and lithography, or screen-printing, foil imaging, or giclee prints), sculpture (bronze, stone, marble, wood, or clay), and mixed medium (a combination of two or more mediums), etc.

Our Ozarks In Art Multimedia Show,  November 1 – November 24

This is a non-juried multimedia competition show open to all artists and includes all 2D & 3D forms of fine art (including painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.) as well as photography (color, monotone, macro, altered, collage, etc.); check Event Calendar for dates. 

Entries are judged with numeric scores; scores are worth 25% for design & composition, 25% for technique/skill of construction, 25% for presentation, and 25% for creativity & originality. Awards are given for both Youth and Adult Divisions;  People’s Choice is awarded by popular vote. ({2024 Theme: TBD})

West Plains Model Railroad Club Holiday Train Display, December 1 – December 31

This popular holiday exhibit is put on by the West Plains Model Railroad Club. The exhibit features several large, detailed displays of model trains running through miniature villages, mountain ranges, forests, farms, and cities with a lot of attention paid to every detail. A very popular holiday activity for the whole family!
