Open Entry Call For Annual Textile And Fiber Show Begins The Season At The Harlin

As we enter the New Year, we’re already preparing for another great season of art shows, history lectures, and educational workshops.

To kick things off in 2024, we are announcing an open call to all artists for submissions to our Annual Textile & Fiber Arts Competition Show!

Entry Dates will be Friday, January 12th and Saturday, January 13th, 12 pm – 4 pm each day.


Examples of different types of Fiber Art and Textile Art:

Quilting (No size limit)

Crochet / Knitting (afghans, garments, toys, etc.)

Stitching, Embroidery, Needlepoint, Petit Pointe

Weaving (rugs, textiles, tapestry, etc.)

Felting

Macramé

Lacemaking, Tatting

Sewing, Applique (including handmade garments, beaded items, etc.)

And there are many, many more kinds of textile and fiber arts…… so, don’t be afraid to enter just because it’s not listed in the above examples!


This is an open-theme non-juried art show with both youth and adult divisions. Entries must in some way consist of either fibers or textiles and must meet the given guidelines for acceptance into the competition. Guidelines for this competition can be found HERE.

Entries are guaranteed a place in the show’s exhibit. Each entry will be judged using a point-based evaluation system that evaluates three areas of skill (Construction 50 pts., General Appearance – 25 pts., Artistic Design – 25 pts.) for a total score. Prizes will be awarded to the entries receiving the highest scores in succession in each category, including Best Of Show. The People’s Choice award will be chosen by public vote. 

Guidelines: Limit five entries per artist. 2D and 3D entries; all styles, subject matter, and mediums allowed. All pieces must be original works of the artist entering. All work must not have been previously shown in a Harlin Museum Art Competition.  Any entry requiring special equipment for display must be accompanied by necessary display equipment.

To submit something to this show, please bring your entry to the museum on one of our two planned entry dates (Friday, January 12th, or Saturday, January 13th, 12 pm – 4 pm both days), where you will complete an entry form and pay your entry fees. Call For Artist Entries! Submission Deadline For Harlin’s 48th Annual Fall Art Show Is Fast Approaching…..

Open call to artists for entry into Harlin Museum’s 48th Annual Fall Art Show Competition!

This show is an open-theme juried show with a youth division, adult novice, and adult advanced divisions. Entries must meet competition guidelines during the juried portion of the entry process for acceptance into the competition. The jurors will select the work for the exhibition based on quality of work and technical skill.

The selected entries are guaranteed a place in the show; each selected piece will be judged using a point-based evaluation system that evaluates four areas (each worth 25 points, for a total possible score of 100 points): design composition, technique/skill of construction, presentation, and creativity/originality. Prizes will be awarded to the entries receiving the highest scores in succession in each category, including Best Of Show. The People’s Choice award will be chosen by public vote.

Guidelines: Limit five entries per artist. 2D and 3D entries; all styles, subject matter, and mediums allowed. All pieces must be original works of the artist entering.  No Copies or Kits.  All work must not have been previously shown in a Harlin Museum Art Competition.  All 2D entries must be either framed, gallery-wrapped canvas, or otherwise secured with wire or eye screws for hanging.  No saw-tooth hangers.  All sculptures or other 3D art must be free-standing or be accompanied by any necessary display equipment.

To submit your entries for jury consideration, email good-quality images of each of your entries (along with the completed entry form) to by the jury submission deadline, which is Monday, October 9th, 11:45 pm.

Theme of Harlin’s Upcoming “Our Ozarks In Art” Multimedia Show is “Ozarks Landmarks”


The Harlin Museum of West Plains, MO will be hosting its 2023 Ozarks – Themed Multimedia Art Show, Our Ozarks In Art, and is calling for artist submissions from throughout the region.

This multimedia show is designed to showcase the works of all types of artists. Categories may include but are not limited to PAINTINGS (oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolor, etc.) DRAWINGS (pastels, graphite, charcoal, pen & ink, colored pencil, etc.) SCULPTURE (wood, clay, ceramic, metal, paper mâché, etc.) PHOTOGRAPHY (nature, landscape, astrophotography, pet photography, macro, aerial, drone photography, architecture, portrait, still life, black & white, abstract, etc.) PAPERCRAFT (collage, quilling, etc.) MIXED MEDIA (any combination of 2 or more mediums) MODELS (kits, original design, etc.) Entries will need to meet the established guidelines for acceptance into the show, which can be found HERE. The show’s final categories and any prizes to be awarded will be determined by the actual entries received.

Entries will be taken both days, between the hours of 12 pm – 4 pm each day, at the Harlin Museum, which is located at 405 Worcester, West Plains, MO. Entry fees are $5.00 per entry, with a cost break at five entries…for $20.00, you’ll get four entries–plus one for free!

Entries will be evaluated for artistic quality, integrity, technique, and presentation, as well as how skillfully they represent the Ozarks by artistically conveying this year’s theme, Ozark Landmarks.

Call For Submissions: Harlin’s Annual High School Art Show & Young Artist Showcase

The Harlin Museum of West Plains, MO is set to host its annual Annual High School Art Show & Young Artist Showcase and is calling for art submissions from all regional public, private, and home-schooled student artists in the 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grades.

Entry dates for the show’s competition will be Friday, February 3rd, and Saturday, February 4th from 12 pm – 4 pm at the museum. 

Entry fees are $5.00 per piece. Guidelines for the competition can be found HERE.

The Young Artists Showcase is open to any artist 8th-grade-age or younger and allows younger artists to experience seeing their art on display in a professional gallery setting.  Entries to the Young Artist Showcase are free; entry dates are the same as those for the high school competition.

The 2023 show will be displayed to the public in the museum’s Hathcock Gallery, February 10th – March 5th.

Harlin Board Of Directors Issues Call For Submissions to 47th Annual Fall Art Show

The Harlin Museum of West Plains, MO is set to host its 47th Annual Fall Art Show this year and is calling for art submissions from all Ozarks regional artists. Entry dates for the show’s juried competition will be Friday, October 7th and Saturday, October 8th from 12pm-4pm at the museum. The show’s entries will be on display in the museum’s Hathcock Gallery, October 10th – November 6th, 2022.

Categories and divisions for this juried competition art show will include Fine Arts (2D & 3D entries) for adult and  youth divisions, and Digital Arts (Still or Animated) for adult and youth divisions.  The show’s final categories will be determined by the entries received.

All entries will be evaluated for design/composition, technique/skill of construction, presentation, and creativity/originality. Entries must meet given guidelines and pass jury standards for acceptance into the competition portion of the show.

The Harlin Museum of West Plains, MO will be hosting its annual Ozarks-themed multimedia art show, Our Ozarks In Art, and is calling for competition submissions from all forms of artists– painters, photographers, sketch and graphic artists, sculptors, and model-makers, craft artisans, etc.  All forms of photography and fine art are eligible for the competition.

Entry dates for the show will be Friday, August 19th & Saturday, August 20th from 12 pm – 4 pm at the museum, located at 405 Worcester Ave. in West Plains, MO. Entries must meet the given guidelines for acceptance into the competition portion of the show. The show’s final categories and prizes to be awarded will be determined by the actual entries received.

Entry fees are $5.00 per entry, with a cost break of $20.00 for five entries–four entries, plus one for free! Entries will be evaluated for artistic quality, integrity, technique, and presentation, as well as how skillfully they represent the Ozarks” by conveying through art the essence of the 2022 theme, which is Ozark Waterways.

The show’s entries will be on display to the public as an exhibit in the museum’s Hathcock Gallery, beginning Friday, August 26th, 2022, and will run for a 3-week engagement, ending on Sunday, September 18th.

Call For Submissions: Harlin’s Annual Photography Show Entry Dates Coming Up April 29th & 30th

The Harlin Museum of West Plains, MO is set to host its Annual Photography Show Competition for 2022 and is calling for photography submissions from all of the Ozark’s regional photogs—both amateur and professional. Entry dates for the show’s competition will be Friday, April 29th, and Saturday, April 30th from 12 pm-4 pm each day at the museum. The show’s entries will be on display in the museum’s Hathcock Gallery, from May 6th – to May 29th, 2022.

Final categories for this competition show will be determined by the entries received; but general categories will likely include Color photos, Monochromatic photos, Altered photos, which are those that have been edited post-process w/ digital software or other means of photo manipulation to create an artificial image,.and Collage pieces, which are any entry consisting of multiple photos arranged as a part of a larger piece to portray an overall theme, statement, or intent.

There will also be a special themed category that will receive its own special award; the theme of this category will be:   * Pets *

All entries will be evaluated on their individual application of Technical Quality, Composition, Lighting, Presentation, and  Creativity / Impact.

Final categories for this competition art show will be determined by the entries received; artists can enter any kind of Fine Art piece, including Paintings (oil, watercolor, gouache, acrylics, ink and wash, tempera, or encaustic paints), Drawings (charcoal, chalk, crayon, pastel, pencil, or pen & ink), Printmaking pieces (woodcuts, stencils, block print, scratch art, engraving, etching, and lithography, or screen-printing, foil imaging, or giclee prints), and Sculpture ( bronze, stone, marble, wood, clay, metal or 3D print), as well as mixed media entries and Digital Art (Still or Animated). We are calling for multimedia submissions from all forms of artists– painters, photographers, sketch and graphic artists, sculptors, and model-makers, craft artisans, etc.

Entry dates for the competition will be Friday, November 12th, and Saturday, November 13th from 12 pm-4 pm at the museum, located at 405 Worcester Ave. in West Plains, MO.
